5 crew members were killed when a routine lifeboat drill went horribly wrong. The ship was docked at the port of Santa Cruz on La Palma in the Canary Islands.
It should be noted, the davit arm involved that faulted was not one of the original ones onboard the 21 year old vessel. This was a newer one that was added in a 1999 dry dock when she was stretched in Bremerhaven, Germany.
