Thursday Update: MSC and STX made the joint announcement this morning in Paris. The two firms have a memorandum of understanding for the construction of two “prototype” ships. There is also an option for an additional two ships, bringing the total up to four.
The new ships will be:
- LOA: 1,033 ft
- Beam: 141 ft
- GT: 167,700
- Rooms: 2,260
- Pax (Double Occupancy): 4,520
- Max Pax: 5,700
The first ship will launch 2017 and the second in 2019.

It’s being heavily rumored that MSC Cruises and STX France will announce a deal to build two ships at STX France Yards. The ships will be bigger than their current largest, the MSC Preziosa and Divina which measure 139,400gt each.
The announcement is expected tomorrow.
