Recap of Day 1 of Seatrade Cruise Global 2018

Day one has officially concluded and boy did we have alot of news. Heres a recap of the highlights as well as some gossip and rumblings I’ve heard on the floor.

The State of the Global Industry was held. You can read what happened here.

Crystal Cruises announced that they will refurb the Crystal Serenity in October.

Viking Ocean announced that they intend to build six more ships.

Ponant Announced that they will build two more ships.

Some new cruise lines are looking to start up. In Asia, both Russia and South Korea are looking to start up cruise lines with the help of government money. In South Korea’s case, they can build the ships locally and I’ve heard that those yards are eager to get into that market.

There are two other lines that want to cater to niche markets. Storylines in the UK will take older vessels and turn them into communities at sea (think similar concept to The World, just not as pricey.) Cruise Retirement intends to offer something similar. It will only cater to ages 50+ who are ready to retire.
