Nova Scotia In Talks To Bring Back Maine Ferry Service

It is being reported that the Nova Scotian government are taking bids to relaunch the Portland, ME – Yarmouth, NS seasonal ferry service. So far only Quest Navigation of Maine and Maritime Applied Physics Corp of Baltimore, MD are known to have submitted bids.

The former operator Bay Ferries has yet to submit an offer. The Canada based company operated the hsc The Cat on that route from 2006-2009. Before that, they sailed her on the much shorter Bar Harbor, ME to Yarmouth, NS. Before the Cat, Scotia Prince Cruises (ex-Prince of Fundy Cruises) operated the Scotia Prince out of Portland also to Yarmouth until 2004.

Results should be expected by the end of next month. The Canadian government will pitch in $21 million to help the winner.
