Latest on AIDAprima

Here’s the latest on the oft delayed AIDAprima:

  • Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) told Tradewinds that it is “optimistic” that the AIDAprima will be delivered this month. However given we are at the 25th of the month, I don’t see this happening, so lets call it January 2016 at the earilest.
  • Originally she was scheduled for delivery in March, then pushed to October. MHI then said they were not going to be able to meet that. It was subsequently pushed back to ‘December’.
  • Nikkei is reporting that delays due to the interior specifications requiring changes can push the ship back to March 2016.
  • AIDAprima is still set for her first cruise out of Hamburg on April 30, 2016.
  • MHI has already written a ¥160bn (usd$1bn) loss on the one ship and if she’s not delivered by the end of the year, expect that number to grow; a lot.
  • We still don’t have any more info on the second ship that’s almost completed construction, however, she has yet to have the drydock flooded. We don’t even have a name for her yet.
    • There is some speculation that this vessel is currently being converted to an Asian deployment and that’s why details are scarce about her.
  • CruiseIndustryNews posted the below video they believe to be of the third seatrials of the ship. Cruise ships usually only sail two sea trials.
