Kleven Launches Hurtigruten’s New Vessel MS Roald Amundsen

UPDATE 2/26: Kleven Vert has informed Hurtigruten that they will unfortunately have to delay the delivery of the vessel. The ship will incorporate an innovative power plant that will relay on hybrid-electric and LNG fuel so there are immense complexities with this. Therefore the ship will now be delivered in early 2019. She was slated for delivery in July.

Her sister, Fridthof Nansen, is still scheduled for July 2019.

Kleven Shipyard, located in Ulsteinvik, Norway, has launched the MS Roald Amundsen. The expedition vessel is being constructed for Hurtigruten. It’s a neat looking ship with a slightly modified axe-bow.

Unlike other cruise ship launches where a drydock is flooded, the Roald Amundsen was towed down her launch ramp.
