Hurtigruten Announces Names of Two New Vessels

Starting in 2018 Norwegian coastal line Hurtigruten will start to add four new ships to their fleet.

Developed by Rolls Royce and built at Kleven Yards, the first ship will be called  Roald Amundsen and launch in 2018. Her sistership will follow that next year and be called Fridtjof Nansen. Both are named after famous arctic explorers from Norway.

The ships are planning on being ice classed and thus, will be true expedition ships. Most likely they will be Hurtigruten’s world travelers and won’t be relegated to the Bergen-Kirknes routes.
