End of Cruising to Antarctica?

Well not a total end, but drastic changes. The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, is working on a resolution that would have limits placed on these cruises. Possible limitations include the size of ships, number of passengers allowed ashore, or number of ships allowed to ply these waters. Also on the table are possible new safety requirements. These include possible survival suits for all passengers and crew and a redesigned lifeboat. It sounds like they are trying to turn Antarctica into the Galapagos.

On another “regulation getting involved in this industry,” congress is currently dealing with the “Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act.” I know Mickey Arison is was looking to getting involved in the Cuban routes. Although with the current economic climate who knows.
