Costa Concordia Monday Update

As divers inspect the wreck today, here’s the top news:

  • Reuters is reporting that the Concordia is insured for $513 million USD. This will go down as the largest marine insurance claim yet.
  • Carnival has disclosed the financial impact of the accident: “The company has insurance coverage for damage to the vessel with a deductible of approximately $30 million as well as insurance for third party personal injury liability subject to an additional deductible of approximately $10 million for this incident.   The company self-insures for loss of use of the vessel.”
  • The Concordia will be out of service for the rest of the year, if not longer.
  • I was able to track down underwater photos from ilgiornale.it. They can be seen after the break.
