Carnival Reshuffles Newbuilding Plan

Carnival Corp. just announced a change to Carnival Cruise Lines and P&O Australia’s newbuild plans.

Almost exactly a year ago, Carnival Corp announced that P&O Australia would be receiving their very first newbuild, a 135,500 gt, 4,200pax ship. At the time, it was assumed that she would be a slightly larger Vista-class ship. Similar to the Carnival Vista and Horizon, or a modified Costa Diadema class.

Instead, P&O Australia will be getting the Carnival Splendor in 2019 and Carnival Cruise Lines will be receiving the 2019 newbuild. She’ll be the third Vista class.

As mentioned above the ship was originally intended to be larger. Ordered at 135,500gt, whereas Vista and Horizon 133,500gt. The announcement today does not include whether they will decrease the intended vessel size or not.
