BREAKING: Norwegian Coastal ship Nordlys Suffers “Explosion”/ Fire

UPDATE:NRK has more photos.

I say explosion in quotes since that’s what is being reported, but I highly doubt that’s what happened. A fire in the engine room killed two crew members and sent nine other crew to the hospital on board the Norwegian Coastal (Hurtigruten) ship Nordlys. The 207 passengers o/b were evacuated as was most of the crew.

The ship was on her way to Aalesund in the southern-ish part of Norway. As you can see in the photo above, the fire yielded plenty of smoke. So much so, the police were forced to close off parts of the Norwegian village. As of this post, she is still near Aalesund. She now appears docked in Aalesund.

"We were sent up on deck and given our lifevests. It took only a few minutes after the alarm and we were in the lifeboats," a French passenger said. "It was a well-organized evacuation. The crew did a really good job. Everything went calm and smoothly. There was no panic."
