Cunard Cancels Queen Victoria Voyage

Cunard Line announced that it intends to cancel a cruise in October to allow an emergency drydocking to fix what is being described as a ‘propulsion issue.’ A recent breakdown forced the ship to sail at only 90% power and a drydocking in Lloyd Werft in Germany is the only remedy. It is being reported that the ship is capable of speeds of 23.7 knots. With the recent damage, she can only achieve around 16 knots.

If it’s a problem that required drydocking then I would bet my money its related to the ships podded propulsion. The Azipods manufactured by ABB have been plagued with these problems since their inception. However, their benefits in increased maneuverability make the risk worth the reward.

She will resume service on October 17th.
