HAL’s Nieuw Amsterdam Says ‘Hello’ to Water
When a ship is constructed now-a-days it is begun, after the blocks components are cut and assembled from steel that is, by lowering and welding together the large blocks in a drydock. When the ship is watertight and seaworthy, they flood the drydock. With the assistance of tugs, she makes her way out of the drydock and docks at the fitting-out dock/pier.
This event occurred last moth in Italy with the Nieuw Amsterdam. The new Holland America vessel is currently being fitted out in Fincantieri yards in Marghera, Italy.
The HollandAmericaBlog just posted the photos from the event. They can be found here.
