Two Possible Destinations Emerge in the Never Ending Speculation of the SS United States
The SS United States Redevelopment Project selected two possible Request for Proposals [RFP] for the fate of the 1952 built liner.
Option A) Pennsylvania.
She will be moored next to Harrah’s Casino in Chester, PA. She will be used as a hotel, restaurant, convention center, and museum.
Option B) Manhattan. She would moor up on Midtowns west side piers where she once sailed from. US Lines still has part of a pier façade visible. There are currently lots of new development going on on Manhattans west side including lots of parks and condos being developed. She once again would be a hotel, restaurant, convention center, and museum.She would be just like the USS Intrepid that sits just off of the West Side Cruise Terminals.
While I would love to see her properly moored in Manhattan, I realistically see the casino in PA option as more feasible. They can tie into the current Casino/Hotel market that’s already there. Not to mention that the Casino is going to have more revenue sources, therefore more money to throw at the project.
