Oasis of the Seas, delivered in 2009 by STX Europe in Turku, Finland, was the first ship in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class and a significant milestone in cruise ship design. At 1,187 feet in length, 215 feet wide, and 226,838 gross tons (as of post-2019 amplification), the vessel accommodates up to 6,780 passengers at full occupancy across 18 decks, supported by a crew of approximately 2,200. The ship’s layout introduced the industry-first “neighborhood” concept, dividing public areas into seven themed zones, including Central Park and the Boardwalk. Oasis features 16 passenger decks, 2,801 staterooms, and numerous technical amenities including four bow thrusters at 7,500 hp each, Azipod propulsion, and an 8.5-meter draft. Designed for energy efficiency and crowd flow optimization, its deck plan includes multiple theaters, dining venues, pools, sports zones, and a split superstructure enabling open-air interior spaces—a key differentiator in large ship architecture.
