UPDATE: It seems mainstream media are picking up this story. The ship is turning around and heading back to New Jersey. The current cruise is canceled and Royal Caribbean is refunding everyone.

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas was hit by a freak squall over the weekend. The storm sprang up quickly and caught the ship off guard. While sailing down to Florida on her weekly cruises out of Bayonne, New Jersey, she encountered 100kt wind gusts and 30ft seas yesterday evening.
You may recall that the Anthem, and her sister Quantum, are designed to have the quickest and most stable internet access at sea. This of course can be a problem when it comes to occurrences like this with people quickly sharing photos of the insides of the Anthem almost instantaneously with the rest of the world. Apparently the antennas can still keep a signal in rough seas.
