Friday: The Deutschland was the ship that caught Fire on Sunday while in Norway. No one was seriously injured, but it prompted the evacuation of the vessel. Check out the original post for photos and more detail.

The ship was then towed to Bergen for initial investigation and surveying of the damage. This prompted the cancellation of at least the next voyage.

Today, it was announced that the Deutschland will be towed to Germany where it will enter a shipyard for repairs (perhaps Lloyd Werft?). The damage, while not severe, was still bad enough to prompt a shipyard to conduct repairs. The ship is scheduled to sail from the shipyard on June 6th and the June 7th cruise appears to be on schedule.

Passengers

So what will happen to the displaced passengers?

Obviously the next few cruises were in jeopardy. Peter Delimann formally announced the cancellation of the 13-Night May 25th cruise. Guests on that trip can take a full refund OR, cleverly enough, have their booking transferred to a 16-Night trip on September 10, 2010, at no additional cost.

The guests that were on the trip that was cut short by the fire will receive a 50% discount on a future Peter Delimann trip.Although, since Peter Delimann recently announced they were suspending their river cruise operations, your choices are limited to only ms Deutschland voyages.

As I reported yesterday, the MS Deutschland was towed from Eidfjorden to Bergen Norway for inspection of the damage. The analysis warrants the cancellation of her cruise that was supposed to leave today and sail Hamburg-Hamburg for a 7-Night cruise. There currently are no further details about further cruise cancellations or how the compensation will be handed out.

Fire on the MS Deutschland http://www.cruiseind.com/2010/05/fire-on-the-ms-deutschland/#utm_source=feed&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed http://www.cruiseind.com/2010/05/fire-on-the-ms-deutschland/#comments Mon, 24 May 2010 15:53:00 +0000 Greg http://www.cruiseind.com/2010/05/fire-on-the-ms-deutschland/ UPDATE MONDAY: Just a quick update on the situation. The passengers spent last night at a local hotel having been unable to continue on their voyage. They will then be shuttled to Bergen or Oslo for flights back home. As for the MS Deutschland, she will now sail for Bergen, Norway for inspection and any repairs to be made. There is no word on future cruises as the total damage needs to be assessed.

German tour operator, Peter Deilmann Cruises ship the MS Deutschland suffered a fire while docked in port. The vessel was calling on the scenic Norwegian Fjord town of Eidfjorden on the west coast of Norway. The fire is said to have been contained to only a machine room and never entered passenger areas. With 607 people onboard, that was a good thing. Never-the-less, with safety always in mind, the ship was fully evacuated and rescue officials assisted the ships crew in extinguishing the blaze.

Rescue services spokesman Per Fjeld says the fire started in the machine room and firefighters have now contained it to that area. He says the ship was carrying 364 passengers, 241 crew members and two Norwegian ship pilots when it caught fire at a port in  on Sunday. (AP)

Zenith Catches on Fire http://www.cruiseind.com/2009/08/zenith-catches-on-fire/#utm_source=feed&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=feed http://www.cruiseind.com/2009/08/zenith-catches-on-fire/#comments Tue, 18 Aug 2009 16:56:39 +0000 Greg http://cruiseind.wordpress.com/?p=775 Pullmantur’s Zenith suffered a fire while berthed in Stockholm, Sweden. The fire was minor but they haven’t been able to suppress the some from traveling through the corridors yet.  Fortunately no fatalities but several reports of people suffering from smoke inhalation.

I have been able to track down several photos from various news outlets in Sweden.

All photos come from aftonbladet.se

I will be traveling back to school in Texas tomorrow so I will be busy backing and getting ready today. Unless something major happens, this will be it for a couple of days.

I wake up to news that a cruise ship off of Egypt suffered a serious fire. Here is what I know so far:

  • Princess Cruises Royal Princess was cruising in the Mediterranean when a large fire broke out in her engine room.
  • It disabled her propulsion.
  • Passengers assembled at their muster stations.
  • NO abandon ship order was given.
  • Fire was successfully put out
  • Ship is anchored off of Port Said, Egypt awaiting permission to enter the port.
  • Damage and future cruises is unknown at this time.

As I hear more I will be sure to post.  Here is a photo of her from 2008300px-Royal_Princess[1]
