Initial speculation was this was for scrapping, however the liners former owner Cunard, released this statement: We have noted the messages of understandable concern with regards to the recent article in the Daily Mail with reference to QE2. We remain in close contact with Dubai and can reassure you that to the very best of our knowledge this story is pure speculation – one of a number of stories and rumours as we have seen over recent months. However, there are additional reports that as of right now Chinese workers are preparing a drydock to accept the ship. The QE2 has been sitting in Dubai since 2008. She is/was scheduled to be converted into a floating hotel. The most recent photo we have of her in Dubai is above.
